Regal Antique Stag at Bay Fashion Elk Deer Buck Print Wavy Glass 1870's Frame

Neat & Quirky Artwork Combo! Exceptionally Rare, Fantastic Color & Style Stag Elk Buck Picture in Antique Wavy Glass Frame. The Stag print is a take from the famous painting and engraving work "Stag at Bay" by Sir Edwin Henry Landseer (1846), but modified without the dogs from the original graphic hunting scene.

If you view the original (Google it) you'll see the resemblance. This print is a true show piece and a stunning addition to any office, den, cabin, lodge, rustic or other room. It's held in a striking antique frame with gold painted gesso applique & old wavy glass frame. The gold paint matting further enhances color and images in a fantastic manner. Approx: 29.5" H x 26" W (Frame), 19.75" H x 15.5" W (Glass).

Now, here's where it gets fun. We bought the lovely stag print due its amazing appeal.

It is truly stunning as you can see. Print appears to be a late 1800's to a very early 1900's lithograph print from the best we can tell. When we gently removed the stag print from the frame to check for identifying writing and to clean glass we found a very nice Great, Great, Great Grandma charcoal portrait artwork behind the stag print! These charcoal works were fairly common prior to the growth of the photography industry of the later 1800's to early 1900's.

It made us laugh to think someone covered up Grandma with the Stag. You actually can tell she had the original Gold Paper circle matting around her at one time or they crafted another one exactly the same size as the darkening on picture fits perfectly with the oval matte. It was tempting to sell her separately, but who wants to break up friends who have been together for over 100 years? We are just pricing as we feel the stag print demands, Grandma is Free! The stag print is in pretty good shape but does have some wear as we shown in pictures. There is some creasing in print but it is mostly covered by matting. We shot from various angles and lighting to help you get a better feel for the item. We also, shot front and back in and out of frame. We searched for several days and could not find an exact copy of this old print, nor did it have identifying marks that helped us know who did the print.

It may have even been an advertising poster for Stag Beer or something like that, but that is a guess. We are seldom stumped but we sure could not find another like it. We did find the "Stag at Bay" works by Landseer in a few styles, which this certainly was taken from and modified, but not this one. It just has that feel. You can see some aging to print, even though it has been framed behind glass.

The last 2 pictures in the photo gallery are of the back of the Grandma Charcoal and the back of the Stag print. The works are held in by old wood plank backing. The gold gesso elements on frame have been repainted at some point and there are some areas where raised relief is missing some spaces particularly along the top, but it does not really effect appeal of item. We noticed a few scratches to glass just under stag's belly, but they are hard to see without looking at an angle and they do not really effects it's appearance.
